Constructa Kids - About

The idea behind ConstructaKids comes from the fact that previous generations may have learned to use tools and gain basic woodworking skills at their fathers’ or grandfathers’ workbenches, but today’s parents often lack the skills themselves, or more often the time to pass these on to their children. Added to this there has been a clear erosion of practicle hand skills from the school ciriculumns.

Martin has been a carpenter for over 25 years and very regularly in recent years on arriving at a client’s house has been greeted by their children eager to watch and learn from him. Since having children of his own, he has seen first hand how, even at a very young age, children can benefit from woodwork. So now, Martin and his wife Erika are setting up ConstructaKids!

By building a variety of fun projects, children learn a wide range of valuable carpentry and construction skills such as measuring, fractions, sawing, drilling, sanding, shaping, assembly, and painting. Hand in hand with the practical skills goes a wide variety of other concepts such as abstract reasoning, mathematics, problem solving, fine motor skills, respect for tools, and (hopefully) patience! Projects will vary depending on the age and experience level of the child, but will be typically be based on a theme and could range from puppets, animals, vehicles, and go-carts, to making toys and mazes and buildings.
